Acreage must be at least 1 acre but less than 5 contiguous acres in size.
Acreage must have already been devoted entirely to urban farming for at least 2 successive years.
Land must be irrigated
Land will be valued as though assessed at Irrigated 1 levels for tax purposes
Only land in agricultural production will be counted towards the acreage. Non-agricultural portions of properties (homes, lawns, workshops, etc) will not be counted towards the acreage.
New applications must be requested from the Assessor’s office in person or via email.
First time applications must be submitted by May 1st of the year being applied for.
Renewal is required every year and new applications must be received by Jan 30.
Assessor’s office will send renewal applications by Jan 1.
Application contains consent to be audited. See State Code 59-2-1707(7)
Application must be signed by all property owners. See State Code 59-2-1707(2)(d)
Application signatures are considered as though done under oath. See State Code 59-2-1707(6)
Application needs to include a full legal survey of the property that will be applied for.
Full legal survey must be provided by the applicant.
Acceptance of the application means that a lien will be applied to the property.
The owner may choose to withdraw from the Urban Farming program or they may be removed from the Urban Farming program by the county. In both instances this will be subject to the rollback process. See State Code 59-2-1705
The rollback takes the number of years that the property has been on the Urban Farming program and calculates the amount due by determining the difference between the tax value that should have been paid while on Urban Farming and the amount that was paid while on Urban farming for a maximum of up to five years prior to the rollback. See State Code 59-2-1705
